2020 YEP! Rules and Deadlines

Have an Idea that will Move Mountains?

Or even just alter the landscape for the better?  Bring your creativity, entrepreneurial spirit, and groundbreaking ideas to compete for cash prizes and support from successful local entrepreneurs.


The Young Entrepreneur Prize (YEP!) engages local high school students in a dynamic process of preparing, presenting, and refining their own entrepreneurial ideas through a friendly competition that offers small group collaboration, team mentoring by Labs members, and

 

$1,000 cash prizes per winning idea/group

Can be multiple winners (will be at least 1).

Contest Goals

 

The goal of YEP! is to help young entrepreneurs in Mill Valley take their ideas to the next level.  The program gives students a feedback loop for formulating their plan and communicating it concisely to experienced local entrepreneurs and investors. 

 

Contest Details

 

Eligibility

  • 8th-12th Grade School Students

  • And, must be a Mill Valley resident or attend a Mill Valley school to be eligible

  • Enter individually or in groups of up to three (each team member must meet eligibility requriements and fill out an entry form)

  • Cash prize winners of the 2015-2019 YEP! are not eligible to enter with the same business idea. They may enter with a new concept.

 

Process

  • 1st Round: Send us a brief written summary (one page) and/or a brief video (less than 3 minutes) of your best business idea – be it a product or service, profit or non-profit.  Be intrepid, engaging, persuasive – capture our attention!

  • Finalist: You will pitch your idea in person to MVL members for 5 minutes with a 10 minute Q&A session

 

Prizes

  • $1,000 per winning idea (per group).  Multiple prizes may be awarded per year. 

  • Introductions to local investors

  • 10 hours of consulting resources from MVL members

  • Permanent placement on MVL website

  • Trophy

 

Dates

  • Entries Accepted: Now until June 30th, 2021 at midnight.

  • Finalist: Presentations by appointment to MVL members in Summer of 2021 at MVL offices in Mill Valley

  • Prizes will be awarded prior to August 30th 2021.
